The key stage 3 curriculum meets the requirements of the “Religious Education Curriculum Directory for Catholic School’s and Colleges in England and Wales.”
Students study Catholic Christianity as the primary religion alongside a study of Islam as the 2nd religion.
Examples of areas studied would include Creation, Social justice and Islamic Teaching and Practices.
At GCSE (Year 9 to Year 11) our student’s follow the Edexcel exam specification that meets the directive issued by the Rt. Rev Seamus Cunningham Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle (November 2015.)
As such students study the following:
A study of Catholic Christianity as the primary religion:
- A 50% study of Catholic Christianity, covering all four topics: –
- Beliefs and Teachings – Practices – Sources of Wisdom and Authority – Forms of Expression and Ways of Life;
- A 25% Study of Ethics and Philosophy.
A study of Judaism as the second religion.
The KS4 curriculum also meets the requirements of the “Religious Education Curriculum Directory for Catholic School’s and Colleges in England and Wales.”
All students study General RE in line with Diocesan Requirements. (NOCN)
At A-Level students study the extremely popular Ethics, Philosophy, and Religion course (OCR exam board)
Examples of areas studied would include Plato and Aristotle, Natural Law and Situation Ethics.
